On Tuesday of last week Robert Kroetsch, the presiding spirit of Alberta letters, died of injuries received in a car accident. He was 83.

It’s hard to keep up with the exploits of TNQ’s writers, artists, and editors. Most recently, we were thrilled to hear that two New Quarterly writers were among the eight Canadians—nine if you count, as you should, Clark Blaise, his book published by a Canadian press to boot—long-listed for the 2011 Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award.
