Calling all Wild Writers (and readers)!
The TNQ crew has been working behind the scenes on something big. And wild.
It's called the Wild Writers Literary Festival—TNQ's first annual writers' festival. We're bringing in some of Canada's most talented emerging and established writers to share their writing and expertise with readers and writers in the region, fostering a local love of literature. It will take place on November 2-3, in Uptown Waterloo. The Festival will combine a mix of readings and educational opportunities (masterclasses and panel discussions) for aspiring writers and lovers of literature, in a fun and engaging way. We will host a series of masterclasses for writers to be presented by experts in their field that will range in subjects from literary to general interest.
We've already booked our venue, and decided who we'd like to bring. But we need a little help to get them here. So we've launched an indiegogo campaign to cover travel expenses and fair compensation for the writers who will enlighten and inspire us.
The Impact
The New Quarterly has a reputation for launching the careers of some of Canada's best writers. This is not our first exploration of Wild Writers. Our millenial "Wild Writers We Have Known" Symposium showcased new writers we knew would make a big impact on the literary world. We were right—those rising-stars included Michael Winter, Michael Crummey, Caroline Adderson, and Annabel Lyon, who have all gone on to win the country's top writing awards. The Wild Writers Festival will give participants the opportunity to say "I knew them when..."
Here's to the wild ones—the unbridled lovers of the written word, embarking on a journey of discovery and experimentation.
