Issue 121: Knock, Knock

Who's there? An estranged father, a former student, the man you aren't marrying, the sound effects man, a stranger rising as if out of the sea...

+ Susan Olding on Household Pets of the Great and Lesser Poets

An oft-repeated commonplace is that literature has only two plots: someone embarks on a journey or a stranger comes to town. Issue 121 is full of stories of arrival, of stories in which someone unexpected—an estranged father, a distraught neighbour, a sound effects man—arrives at the door (whether literally or figuratively) and the protagonist’s life takes a turn. Hence our decision to borrow the title “Knock, Knock” from Michelle Berry’s story therein.  Discover, as the joke goes, who’s there.
