The New Quarterly receives hundreds of submissions each year. In order to make things easier for our team of editorial volunteers, and to give writers a better idea of when they can expect a response to their submissions, we adopted a regular reading schedule last year. Our editors meet twice a year to discuss the fiction and prose that comes in during our two reading periods.

What does this mean for you as a writer? If you'd like to minimize the amount of time you have to wait for a response to your writing, you should send your writing as close to the reading deadline as possible. So send us your writing by August 31 to ensure it's your work they're discussing at the fall meeting! Just don't forget to read our submission guidelines page first (especially if you've submitted before); though we love writing that pushes creative boundaries, we will not process submissions that break our submission rules.
