On Character with Alison Pick

67 Erb Street West, Waterloo
November 4, 2017
11:10 – 12:30

Good character development is a critical part of writing both fiction and non-fiction (and can also be surprisingly relevant to poetry!). This workshop will help you get to know the characters you are writing about in new and fun ways. Come prepared to brainstorm, to play games, to write hard, and to learn how understanding your characters deeply can take your writing project to a whole new level.

Alison Pick is the author of six books of fiction, memoir and poetry, most recently the novel Strangers With the Same Dream. She was the winner of the 2002 Bronwen Wallace Award for most promising writer in Canada under 35, and her novel Far to Go was nominated for the Man Booker Prize. She lives and writes in Toronto.

Check out Trevor Corkum’s review of Alison Pick’s new novel Strangers with the Same Dream in the Toronto Star! And don’t miss these other reviews of Alison Pick’s new novel in the National Post, as well as an excerpt in the Globe and Mail!
