Writing Spaces: Sharon Bala

By Sharon Bala

This week for Writing Spaces we asked Sharon Bala, author of “Miloslav” (forthcoming in Issue 137), to give us a peek into her workspace. Sharon Bala is a member of The Port Authority, a St. John’s writing group. Her short fiction has won three Newfoundland and Labrador Arts & Letters Awards and been published, or is forthcoming, in: The New Quarterly, Grain, PRISM International, Room, Riddle Fence, and in a collection called Racket. Her manuscript, The Boat People, won the Percy Janes First Novel Award (May 2015) and was short listed for the Fresh Fish Award (October 2015). Visit her online here.

  1. an empty house
  2. a spotless desk (because a mess is an invitation to procrastinate)
  3. the abject terror of a looming deadline
